Eastfield Park looks stunning in the autumn sunshine! This is also the time when the Friends are particularly active in their attempt to improve the park.

At the end of October, a group of volunteers from the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation constructed a culvert to carry water under the path that crosses the ditch just above the top pond. The FoEP scrounged an off-cut piece of pipe from the contractors working along Booth Lane North and the WNDC volunteers provided the cement and muscle power for the work. The volunteers also planted 180 daffodil and 90 snowdrop bulbs close to the Greenview Avenue and Skiddaw Walk entrances to the park.

Earlier in the month, the Friends held their annual public 'Autumn Tidy-up' of the park. This year the emphasis was on litter picking as part of the 'Away With Litter' campaign. Fourteen bags of litter were removed from the park. Additionally, an area in front of the top pond was cleared of scrub, part of the crescent rock garden was weeded and a short length of path cleared of overhanging branches. A community grant paid for lunch for the volunteers and everybody seemed to have a great time. A press photo of many of the volunteers can be seen by clicking the photograph alongside.

Throughout the month the 'Away With Litter' campaign has continued with ninety-minute litter picking events every six days. Attendance at these has been rather poor but new contacts have been made and a further twelve bags of litter remove from in and around the park. The campaign also includes a schools anti-litter poster competition and, so far, three local schools have taken up the challenge. There will be more about this competition next month.
