March 2014 ....

Digging for Gold!

The Friends of Eastfield Park have again entered It's Your Neighbourhood, part of Britain in Bloom, sponsored by the Royal Horticultural Society. As part of our entry, students from Northampton College have been helping to create a flower bed near the fence separating Eastfield Park from Eleonore House. Work has so far included laying out the bed, digging it over, and removing roots, weeds and burried litter. Further work, including digging in compost and levelling, is required before the bed is ready for planting.

End of March, 2014

To celebrate 50 golden years of RHS Britain in Bloom community groups around the country are planting golden sunflowers in towns, cities and villages. Our entry in It's Your Neighbourhood has entitled us to receive free sunflower seed from the RHS and our intention is that children will plant these seeds during our 'Easter@Eastfield' family fun afternoon on Easter Sunday (2.30-4.00pm). Some seeds will be planted directly into the prepared flower bed, others will be planted into pots or trays to provide plants to replace any losses in the flower bed.

Litter collected on 20th March 2014

Litter picking has been carried out by local volunteers at roughly two weekly intervals since 21st February and will continue throughout the months of April and May. So far this year, including the litter picked up by students, 18.5 sacks of litter have been collected. Further details can be fould on the Litter Action Website.
