Friends of Eastfield Park and the Eastfield Ward Community First Panel

The FoEP (represented by Vic Smith) is the Panel Partner on the Eastfield Ward Community First Panel. FoEP's Vice-Chair, Bernard Kelly, and Treasurer, John Baxter, are also panel members. However, none of these individuals took part in the consideration of the FoEP grant application referred to under 'More Good News'. Vic, who wrote the application, was on holiday at the time and Bernard and John left the room while the matter was discussed.

GOOD NEWS .....

Thanks to the efforts of Borough Cllr Anna King and County Cllr Alan Wright, the Friends of Eastfield Park now have use of a council garage in the Lakeview area to store tools and other equipment rent free.

Vic Smith collected the key from Anna on 29th July and immediately went round to inspect the facility. The garage needs a sweep through and possibly some pruning of trees and general clearing of rubbish behind it to protect the back wall from damp but it should serve our purposes well. The agreement lasts for only one year but we hope that it will be extended as we continue to demonstrate the improvements we can make to the park.

Vic hopes to start moving the FoEP equipment into the garage during the first week in July. If anybody can provide suitable racks for hanging garden tools up or cupboards for storing smaller items please let Vic know.

MORE GOOD NEWS .....

The Eastfield Ward Community First Panel has recommended approval of a grant application from Friends of Eastfield Park for £1770 to run an anti-litter campaign this coming autumn: ‘ALL 4 AWL (Away With Litter)’.

If the application is approved by the Community Development Foundation (CDF) in London preparation for the campaign will begin immediately. The campaign will run from 8th September (the day of the Eastfield Festival) to 17th December (the evening of Carols in the Park) and will include the annual Autumn Tidy-up of the Park on 13th October.

‘ALL 4 AWL’ will include two strands: one aimed at reducing further litter in Eastfield, the other aimed at removing litter from Eastfield Park and the surrounding area. More information will be given on this website once the application has been approved by the CDF.
