Preparing for Spring ...

A lot will be happening in Eastfield Park this spring and the FoEP have been been busy planning and preparing for the warmer weather.

Our 'Easter@Eastfield' family fun afternoon will be held as usual on Easter Sunday (5th April) between 2.30 and 4.00pm close to the MUGA. We have been given £150 from Cllr. Anna King's empowerment fund to support the event and this will again enable us to provide a bouncy castle for children to enjoy free of charge. There will be the usual Easter Trail for older children and an Egg Hunt around the Eastfield Monster for younger children. Both of these activities are free for children and all participants will receive a small chocolate egg or sweets at our discretion. It is hoped that Broadmead Baptist and St Alban's Churches will provide other activities for children and that there will be the usual Tombola for adults. Any donations given to the organisers will be passed on to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. All children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. We urgently need more volunteers to help organise and run this event and if you would like to help please contact us through our 'Contact' page on this website (but please do not expect a reply until after 12th March).

Our annual 'Spring Clean' in the Park will be held on Saturday 25th April between 10.00am and 4.00pm and we are again hoping to provide a cooked lunch for those who want one. (If you want to book lunch please text 07 910 161 275 or send a message through the 'Contact' page of this website.) Tools and protective gloves will be provided and drinks will be available throughout the day. The work will include such things as litter picking and general tidying, clearing vegetation from paths, preparing flower beds, planting, pruning and other conservation work. It's a great way to meet new people and get some exercise in the fresh air. No experience is needed and you can come all day or just for an hour; it's entirely up to you. We meet in the area between the ponds and the bullring unless it is very wet underfoot, in which case we will set up near the Skiddaw Walk entrance.

In April we also have a group of volunteers from Thomson Holidays coming to extend the garden along the fence between Eleonore House and the Park.

The plans for this (see diagram) have been approved by NCB and funds for plants provided by the Eleonore House residents and St Albans Drop-in.

Northampton College students will be working in the Park on Monday and Wenesday morings during March, carrying out wildlife surveys and performing various other tasks.

The FoEP has recently received two grants from Cllr. Elizabeth Gowen's empowerment fund: £350 for equipment for events (gazebo, folding table & display boards) and £1,250 for improving the 'Eastfield Monster'.

Other News ...

The Draft Management Plan for Eastfield Park was approved by the Park's Management Committee (EPMC) on 9th February, 2015. On 16th March, Vic Smith, Chair of the FoEP and the EPMC, gave a public talk preceding the FoEP's AGM in which he outlined the Management Plan and invited people to read it fully and submit comments about it and the proposed developments discuss-ed in it, to either the FoEP or the EPMC.
Printed copies of the Plan are now available in the Abington, Weston Favell and Town Centre Libraries during normal opening hours, and at the St Alban's Drop-in on Friday mornings. People may submit comments online using the 'Contact' page on this website or by writing to the EPMC c/o NBC at the Guildhall.
The Management Plan can also be down-loaded from the 'Welcome' or 'Downloads' pages of this website. Two versions are available, a high resolution version which is better for printing but which may take a while to load, or a faster loading low resolution version for reading on screen.
Comments received before 17th March will be reflected in the Plan's final version to be published in early April. However, people may comment on proposed developments or any aspect of the Park or its management whenever they wish. All relevant comments received by the FoEP will be passed on to the EPMC. Further periods of consultation about play equipment and possible new pathways have been incorporated into the Plan.

A copy of the Chair's Report presented at the AGM is available from the 'Downloads' page and the new committee elected at the 2015 AGM is listed on the 'Committee & Logo' page (below 'Who we are' on the menu).
